Some businesses start with a business plan. Ours started with three goats and a family crisis.
In 2013, our family was facing one of its hardest seasons. A loved one began what would become six years of hospital visits—heartbeat irregularities, organ challenges, and the kind of uncertainty that reshapes everything you thought you knew about health and resilience. We were searching for anything that might bring comfort during the long drives to appointments and the longer nights wondering what tomorrow would hold.
That's when three goats arrived at our Washington State farm—Sierra, Sienna, and Annie—and everything began to change.
What started as animal therapy became something much more. Their gentle presence, their affectionate sounds, the simple act of petting a warm, furry friend during the hardest days—it mattered. As our family member slowly regained strength, those three goats transitioned from beloved companions to abundant milk producers. Suddenly, our kitchen was alive with experimentation: creamy lasagnas, homemade ice cream, rich chocolate milk, fresh goat milk mozzarella.
We discovered that goat milk wasn't just delicious—it was transformative.
The real breakthrough came when we started using it on our skin.
Our mother—Lisa, a former modern dancer from San Diego with an artist's intuition and a scientist's curiosity—had spent 30 years formulating products in our kitchen. Growing up between San Diego and Billings, Montana, she'd learned resourcefulness early. After earning her degree in Modern Dance from San Diego State University, she'd planned to open her own studio. Instead, she chose something equally demanding: raising six athletes.
For three decades, Lisa formulated everything we needed—food, supplements, recovery aids—tailored to a household that trained hard and needed real results. When those three goats arrived in 2013, she turned that same meticulous approach to goat milk skincare.
She researched. She tested. She refined. What she created was something we couldn't find anywhere else: organic goat milk moisturizer that actually worked.
In 2017, Artisan The Goat was born.
Our father—Frank, a New Yorker who'd met Lisa at San Diego State and followed love to the Pacific Northwest 35 years ago—brought his own gifts to the venture. A former NCAA Division I athlete in both football and track & field, he understood what it meant to push your body to its limits and need products that actually support recovery. He also brought business sense, relentless work ethic, and the belief that quality shouldn't require compromise.
Together, they built something neither could have created alone.
Today, our farm in rural Southwest Washington State is home to the same mission that started with three goats: creating skincare that genuinely helps people feel better in their own skin.
We're not a corporation. We're a family of eight—Mom, Dad, and six kids who grew up on this farm, surrounded by goats and big dreams.
Our kids aren't just family—they're athletes, scholars, and the reason we believe so deeply in taking care of your body. Four of the six competed at the college level. Two reached NCAA Division I Track & Field, competing in events like high jump, pole vault, hurdles, and multi-events. Three have earned master's degrees in business.
We know what it means to push your body hard and need products that actually support recovery. We know the discipline of training, the satisfaction of improvement, the importance of rest and repair. That knowledge—earned through early morning weight sessions, Pilates reformers, cold plunges, and red light therapy—shapes everything we make.
We believe in accessible excellence.
Luxury skincare shouldn't require a luxury budget. We create products with the finest organic ingredients—the same formulations you'd find at high-end price points—and price them generously. Because everyone deserves to feel good in their skin. We call ourselves "the generous company" for a reason.
We believe goat milk skincare changes lives.
That's not marketing. It's what we've witnessed—in our own family, and in the many customers who've shared their stories. Skin that finally feels calm. Conditions that finally improved. Confidence that finally returned.
We believe in self-improvement.
On our farm, we're researching, refining, and pushing ourselves to be better. That same research mindset we developed during six years of hospital visits—learning everything we could to help our loved one—now drives our product development. We don't just read studies; we apply them.
We believe in making the world a little better.
Through quality. Through generosity. Through helping people feel comfortable and confident. One jar of face cream won't solve everything—but it might be the small thing that makes someone's day better. That matters to us.
Our Washington State farm isn't just where we make our products—it's where we live, train, and find inspiration.
On any given day, you might find us exploring the stunning Pacific Northwest—Cannon Beach, Multnomah Falls, Hood River, the Columbia River Gorge. Or simply being present with the animals who make this place home: our herd of goats (far more than the original three now), chickens, our energetic Australian Shepherds Sadie and Captain, and Charlie, our gentle giant Great Pyrenees who watches over everyone.
We're a physically active family. Early mornings in the weight room. Pilates sessions that humble even our D1 athletes. Recovery rituals—oxygen therapy, contrast therapy, sauna sessions—that we've refined over years of learning what actually works. The same intention we bring to our own wellness is the intention we bring to every product we create in our on-site cleanroom facility.
Fresh, non-reconstituted goat milk. Unlike many skincare brands that use powdered or reconstituted goat milk (sometimes listed after fragrance), we use fresh goat milk from our own herd. It goes from our goats directly into our products, preserving the natural nutrients, proteins, and beneficial compounds that make goat milk so effective for skin.
MSM in every single product. Methylsulfonylmethane—organic sulfur—is a powerful anti-inflammatory compound we include in every formulation. It's non-negotiable for us because we've seen what it does for sensitive, reactive, and athletic skin.
Real athletic credentials. We're not a brand that hired athletes for marketing. We are athletes. With three NCAA Division I family members and five college-level competitors total, our sports recovery products come from genuine understanding of what works when your body is pushed hard.
Farm-to-face authenticity. Real farm. Real goats. Real family. Real story. This can't be replicated by corporations or AI-generated marketing. When we say "from our Washington State farm," we mean it literally.
We started with what we know best: goat milk facial moisturizers. Our original Face Cream formulations remain at the heart of everything we do—organic, effective, and gentle enough for the most sensitive skin.
As our family's needs evolved, so did our product line. Our athletes needed sports recovery creams that actually worked after hard training sessions, so we developed Active Cream (with arnica, chondroitin, and glucosamine) and Muscle Cream (with organic black pepper for circulation support). We created premium anti-aging products featuring colostrum—the nutrient-rich first milk that's loaded with growth factors. We crafted Hand Cream for working hands and Superfruits Cream for antioxidant protection.
Everything we create follows the same philosophy: the best organic ingredients, honest formulations, shellfish-free options where it matters, and prices that let everyone experience the difference.
When you choose Artisan The Goat, you're not supporting a faceless company. You're supporting a family that cares deeply about what we put in our products and what those products do for you.
Every jar. Every formula. Every shipment from our Washington State farm to your door. Made with intention, crafted with care, third-party tested for quality, and backed by a family that believes in what we're doing.
From our farm to your skin—thank you for being part of our story.
We'd love to hear yours. Reach out anytime—we read every message.

The Farm
Nestled in Washington State, our family farm is more than where we make our products—it's where we live, work, and find daily inspiration. This is the place where three goats arrived during a difficult season and changed everything. Today, it's home to a growing herd, a menagerie of beloved animals, and eight people who believe in doing things the right way.
Welcome to our little corner of the Pacific Northwest.
They're the heart of everything we do.
Our goats aren't production units—they're pets with names, personalities, and preferences we know by heart. Some are shy. Some demand attention the moment you walk into the barn. Some have been with us for years; others are the newest additions to the herd.
What they all share: excellent care, room to roam, quality food, and the kind of attention that produces the freshest, highest-quality milk possible. Happy goats make the best milk—and you can taste the difference in every product we create.
Goats may get top billing, but they're not the only animals who call this farm home.
The Chickens Fresh eggs every morning and endless entertainment. Our chickens have the run of the place and aren't shy about letting us know when it's treat time.
The Cat Every farm needs a barn cat. Ours has strong opinions about everything and isn't afraid to share them.
The Australian Shepherds Boundless energy, fierce loyalty, and the kind of enthusiasm that makes every morning feel like an adventure. Our Aussies keep things lively around here.
The Great Pyrenees Our gentle giant. The Great Pyrenees watches over the farm with calm authority, keeping everyone safe while moving at their own unhurried pace. Don't let the relaxed demeanor fool you—nothing gets past this guardian.
Our days start early and stay full.
Morning chores. Milking. Tending to the animals. Formulating products in small batches. Packing orders with care. And somewhere in between, finding time for the things that keep us grounded—family meals, training sessions, and moments of quiet in the middle of the beautiful chaos.
We're a physically active family. You'll find us in the weight room before dawn, on the Pilates reformer, or testing our recovery protocols after hard training sessions. Cold plunges, sauna sessions, red light therapy—we're believers in taking care of the body, and that philosophy extends to everything we create for yours.
We chose Washington State for a reason.
The Pacific Northwest offers something special: clean air, stunning landscapes, and a pace of life that allows for intention. On weekends, you might find us hiking through old-growth forests, exploring the rugged Oregon Coast, or simply sitting on the porch watching the sun set behind the mountains.
This environment shapes who we are and what we make. The freshness. The connection to nature. The belief that good things come from good places. It all finds its way into our products.
Every Artisan The Goat product begins right here.
We don't source our goat milk from industrial suppliers or distant farms. It comes from our goats, on our land, processed by our family. This vertical integration means we control quality at every step—from what our goats eat to how our products are formulated and packaged.
When you use an Artisan product, you're getting something made with the kind of care that only comes from people who are personally invested in every jar. This isn't a job for us. It's our life.
Eight people. One mission. Countless goats.
We're Mom and Dad—she's the formulator and founder, a modern dance dancer from San Diego with an artist's eye for creating beautiful things. He's the New Yorker who followed love to the West Coast and brought the business sense to match her creativity.
We're six kids who grew up on this farm, surrounded by animals and big dreams. Four college athletes. Two Division I competitors. Three with master's degrees and one more on the way. We know what it means to work hard, push limits, and take care of bodies that perform at high levels.
Together, we're the team behind every product, every order, every customer interaction. When you support Artisan The Goat, you're supporting all of us—and we don't take that lightly.
This farm exists because of customers like you.
Every purchase supports a family business doing things the right way—caring for animals ethically, formulating products with integrity, and building something we're proud to pass on. We're grateful for everyone who has joined us on this journey.
From our farm to your skin, thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why goat milk? What makes it special for skin?
Goat milk is one of nature's most complete skincare ingredients. It contains natural lactic acid for gentle exfoliation, vitamin A (natural retinol) for cell renewal, and fatty acids that closely match human skin. The fat molecules in goat milk are also smaller than those in cow milk or most plant oils, which means they actually absorb into your skin rather than just sitting on top.
The pH of goat milk (around 6.3-6.7) is remarkably close to human skin's natural pH, so it works with your skin barrier instead of disrupting it. This matters especially for sensitive or reactive skin.
Beyond the science, goat milk has been used for beautiful skin for thousands of years—Cleopatra famously bathed in it. We're just continuing a tradition that's worked for millennia.
Is your goat milk fresh or powdered?
Fresh, always. This is one of our most important differentiators.
Because we raise our own goats on our Washington State farm and manufacture on-site in our cleanroom facility, our milk goes from our goats directly into our products—often within days. This preserves the beneficial enzymes, vitamins, proteins, and bioactive compounds that degrade when milk is powdered, reconstituted, or shipped through long supply chains.
Many skincare brands (even expensive ones) use powdered or reconstituted goat milk. Some even list goat milk after fragrance in their ingredient lists, which tells you there's very little actual goat milk in the product. We believe you deserve better than that.
When you see "goat milk (not reconstituted)" in our ingredient lists, that's exactly what we mean—fresh milk from our farm.
What is MSM and why is it in every product?
MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic sulfur compound with powerful anti-inflammatory and skin-calming properties. We include it in every single Artisan product because we've seen what it does for sensitive, reactive, and athletic skin.
Sulfur supports collagen production, helps repair the skin barrier, reduces inflammation, and works beautifully alongside goat milk's natural benefits. For our family of athletes—who put their skin through a lot during training—MSM became non-negotiable. It's gentle enough for the most sensitive skin while being effective enough to make a real difference.
If you see our products, you'll notice MSM listed in every single ingredient panel. That's intentional.
Is goat milk skincare good for sensitive skin?
Absolutely—this is actually where goat milk shines brightest. Goat milk's pH closely matches human skin, which means it cleanses and moisturizes without disrupting your skin's protective barrier. The natural fats help repair and strengthen sensitive skin rather than irritating it. The MSM we add to every formula provides additional anti-inflammatory support.
Many of our customers came to us after years of struggling to find products their reactive skin could tolerate. We regularly hear from people who say our products are the first thing that hasn't caused a flare-up.
Can goat milk help with eczema or psoriasis?
Many customers with eczema and psoriasis report significant improvement with regular use of our products. While we can't make medical claims or promise specific results, goat milk's barrier-repairing fats, gentle pH, anti-inflammatory properties, and the added MSM in our formulations address several factors that contribute to these conditions.
We always recommend patch testing first and continuing to work with your dermatologist for ongoing skin conditions. Goat milk skincare can complement medical treatment, but it's not a replacement for professional care.
Is goat milk skincare good for acne-prone skin?
Yes! This surprises some people, but goat milk works well for acne-prone skin for several reasons. The lactic acid provides gentle exfoliation that helps prevent clogged pores. The antibacterial properties of certain fatty acids (capric and caprylic acid) help keep skin balanced. And unlike heavy oils that can trigger breakouts, goat milk moisturizes without clogging pores.
Many acne sufferers actually have damaged moisture barriers from harsh acne treatments—goat milk helps repair that barrier while keeping skin balanced. The MSM in our formulations also helps reduce inflammation associated with breakouts.
Will goat milk skincare work for oily skin?
Counterintuitively, yes. Oily skin often overproduces sebum because it's actually dehydrated—your skin compensates for dryness by making more oil. When you properly hydrate oily skin with compatible ingredients like goat milk, oil production often normalizes.
Our lighter formulations work especially well for oily skin types, providing hydration without heaviness.
Is goat milk skincare anti-aging?
Goat milk contains several compounds that support aging skin. The natural vitamin A (retinol) promotes cell turnover and helps repair sun damage. Lactic acid gently exfoliates to reveal fresher skin. The fatty acids help maintain skin's firmness and elasticity.
For more intensive anti-aging support, our Colostrum Cream contains growth factors that actively signal skin cells to regenerate—supporting collagen production and cell renewal without the irritation that often comes with synthetic anti-aging ingredients.
What's the difference between your different face creams?
Face Cream — Our original formula. A balanced, everyday moisturizer suitable for all skin types. Contains fresh goat milk, MSM, hyaluronic acid, argan oil, jojoba, green tea, and frankincense. Great for anyone new to goat milk skincare.
Superfruits Cream — Our original formula enhanced with seven antioxidant-rich fruit oils (blueberry, acai, kiwi, passionfruit, goji berry) for added protection against environmental damage and extra brightening benefits. Perfect for morning application.
Colostrum Cream — Our signature, most advanced formula featuring caprine colostrum with growth factors for active regeneration. Includes premium oils like marula, abyssinian, evening primrose, and sea buckthorn. Best for aging concerns, damaged skin, or when your skin needs intensive support.
Rejuvenating Cream — Features cucumber, marula, rose hip, and moringa oils for hydration and natural glow. Targets mature skin with a gentle, nourishing approach.
Not sure which to start with? Our original Face Cream is always a safe choice—it's our bestseller for a reason.
What's colostrum and why is it in skincare?
Colostrum is the nutrient-dense "first milk" mammals produce immediately after giving birth. It's fundamentally different from regular milk—packed with growth factors, immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, and concentrated nutrients designed for rapid development and immune protection.
When applied to skin, these growth factors signal cells to repair and regenerate, supporting the same processes that naturally slow as we age. The immunoglobulins provide protective benefits, while lactoferrin offers anti-aging compounds many people have never heard of.
Our Colostrum Cream is ideal for anyone wanting to actively address signs of aging or support skin recovery—fine lines, scarring, loss of elasticity. It's gentler than retinol for sensitive skin while still delivering real anti-aging results.
We only harvest colostrum after baby goats have received everything they need—the surplus is what goes into our skincare.
What's the difference between Active Cream and Muscle Cream?
Both are sports recovery products, but they serve different purposes:
Active Cream — Formulated with organic arnica montana, chondroitin, glucosamine, turmeric, and ginger. Designed for muscle and tendon aches, inflammation reduction, and post-workout recovery. Great for soreness, training recovery, and supporting the body's natural pain relief response. This is what our NCAA Division I track athletes reach for after hard training sessions.
Muscle Cream — Formulated with organic black pepper oil, peppermint, wintergreen, and pomegranate. Designed for circulation support, joint maintenance, and cooling relief. The black pepper enhances blood flow while the peppermint and wintergreen provide an elegant cooling sensation. Think of it as long-term joint care and circulation support.
Both are shellfish-free (our chondroitin and glucosamine are not derived from shellfish), which addresses a significant gap in the sports recovery market.
Are your chondroitin and glucosamine shellfish-free?
Yes! This is one of our most important formulation decisions. Traditional joint supplements and topical products derive chondroitin and glucosamine from shellfish, which creates a problem for people with shellfish allergies who need joint support.
Our Active Cream uses shellfish-free sources of both compounds, making it accessible to everyone—including our own family members who have shellfish sensitivities.
How long do your products last? What's the shelf life?
Unopened, our products are good for 12-18 months from the production date. Once opened, we recommend using within 6-9 months for optimal freshness and effectiveness.
Store products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. You don't need to refrigerate them, but avoid leaving them in hot cars or steamy bathrooms.
Are your products organic?
Yes. Our goat milk comes from goats raised on our own Washington State farm using organic practices—no pesticides, hormones, or unnecessary interventions. We prioritize USDA Certified Organic ingredients throughout our formulations whenever possible.
You'll see "organic" listed before many ingredients on our labels—that's not marketing language, that's our actual sourcing commitment.
Are your products tested on animals?
Never. We're a family that lives with and loves our animals—the idea of testing on them is unthinkable. Our products are tested on willing human family members (and we have six kids plus parents, so plenty of volunteers). Everything gets thoroughly tested before it ever reaches a customer.
Are your products vegan?
No. Goat milk and colostrum are animal products, so our skincare is not vegan. However, our products are cruelty-free and our goats are treated as beloved family members, not as production units.
We believe there's a meaningful difference between using animal products humanely and ethically versus factory farming. Our goats live good lives on our Washington State farm.
Do your products contain any common allergens?
Our products contain goat milk, which is a dairy product. If you have a severe dairy allergy, please consult with your doctor before use.
We do NOT use nuts, gluten, soy, or synthetic fragrances in our formulations. Our sports recovery creams are shellfish-free. However, if you have specific allergies, please check individual product ingredient lists or contact us directly—we're happy to help you find products that work for your needs.
Are your products safe during pregnancy?
Our goat milk products use naturally-derived, organic ingredients and are generally considered safe during pregnancy. However, we always recommend consulting with your healthcare provider about any skincare products during pregnancy, as individual circumstances vary.
Our products do not contain synthetic retinoids, synthetic fragrances, or other ingredients commonly flagged for pregnancy. The vitamin A in goat milk is naturally-occurring at safe levels.
How do I use goat milk moisturizer?
For best results:
- Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser
- While skin is still slightly damp, apply a small amount of moisturizer
- Gently massage in upward motions until absorbed
- Use morning and evening for consistent results
A little goes a long way—start with a pea-sized amount and add more if needed. The fresh goat milk base means our products absorb quickly without sitting heavy on your skin.
Can I use your products with other skincare?
Yes! Our products layer well with other skincare. If you use serums or treatments, apply those first (thinnest to thickest), then follow with our moisturizer. Our gentle, pH-balanced formulations rarely conflict with other products.
If you use prescription treatments like tretinoin, our goat milk moisturizer can actually help buffer irritation—many customers use it as their moisturizing step in retinoid routines.
How long until I see results?
Most people notice their skin feels softer and more comfortable within the first week. Visible improvements in texture and tone typically appear within 3-4 weeks of consistent use. More significant changes—reduced fine lines, improved barrier function, balanced oil production—usually develop over 2-3 months.
For our sports recovery creams (Active Cream and Muscle Cream), many athletes report feeling relief within hours, though consistent use builds better results over time.
Skincare works through cumulative effect. Consistency matters more than quantity.
Can I use goat milk products on my body, not just my face?
Absolutely! While our face creams are formulated specifically for facial skin, many customers use them on necks, décolletage, hands, and other areas that show aging. Our Hand Cream is specifically designed for hands that work hard. Our Active Cream and Muscle Cream are formulated for full-body athletic use.
Can men use your products?
Yes! Skincare isn't gendered, and goat milk works beautifully for typically male skin concerns. The gentle formula soothes post-shave irritation, the balanced approach helps control oil without stripping, and the effective ingredients work on thicker male skin.
Many men in our own family—including our father (a former NCAA Division I football and track athlete) and our sons (current D1 track athletes)—use our products daily. The Active Cream and Muscle Cream are especially popular with male athletes.
Where is your farm located?
Our family farm is in rural Southwest Washington State, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. While Portland, Oregon is the closest major city, we're firmly on the Washington side. We've been in the Pacific Northwest for over 35 years—this is home.
We raise our goats here and produce all our products on-site in our cleanroom manufacturing facility, ensuring complete control over quality from animal to finished product.
How did you get started?
In 2013, our family was facing a serious health crisis. A loved one began what would become six years of hospital visits dealing with heartbeat irregularities and organ challenges. During this difficult time, three goats—Sierra, Sienna, and Annie—arrived at our farm as comfort animals.
Those goats provided solace through their gentle presence, their affectionate sounds, and simply being there during the hardest days. As our family member slowly recovered, we learned everything we could about health and wellness. Those research skills, combined with our mother Lisa's 30 years of formulating products in our kitchen for a household of athletes, eventually led to Artisan The Goat.
We founded the company officially in 2017, but the real beginning was 2013 with three goats and a family that refused to give up.
How are your goats treated?
Like family—because they are. Our goats have names, not numbers. They have space to roam, fresh air, quality food, and daily attention from people who genuinely care about them. We know each goat's personality, preferences, and health history.
We got into this business because goats helped our family through the hardest season of our lives. Treating them well isn't just ethics—it's gratitude.
Is your goat milk really fresh?
Yes. Because we raise our own goats and produce on-site, our milk goes from animal to product quickly—often within days. This preserves the beneficial enzymes, vitamins, and bioactive compounds that degrade in milk that travels through long supply chains or gets powdered for shelf stability.
This farm-to-formula freshness is something industrial goat milk skincare simply can't match. When a brand lists "goat milk" as the tenth ingredient or uses reconstituted powder, you're not getting the same product we're making.
Do you hurt the goats to get milk?
Not at all. Dairy goats naturally produce milk after having babies, and they need to be milked regularly for their own comfort and health—much like dairy cows. Our goats actually line up for milking because it relieves pressure and they enjoy the routine and attention.
We keep our herd at a manageable size and treat milking as bonding time, not industrial extraction. The goats are calm, comfortable, and well-cared-for throughout the process.
What about the colostrum—don't the baby goats need that?
Absolutely, and baby goats get everything they need first. Colostrum is critical for newborn health, immunity, and development. We never take what baby goats require.
Mother goats produce more colostrum than their babies can consume in those first critical hours. Once we're certain the babies have received adequate colostrum and are thriving, only then do we collect the surplus for our Colostrum Cream. It's a small amount per goat, which is why Colostrum Cream is our premium product.
Who runs your business?
We're a true family operation. Our parents—Lisa (the formulator and founder) and Frank (former NCAA Division I athlete who handles business operations)—run the day-to-day. Our six grown kids contribute in various ways, from athletic product testing to business strategy (three have master's degrees in business).
When you contact us, you're talking to actual family members, not customer service reps reading from scripts.
Do you ship internationally?
Currently, we ship within the United States. International shipping may be available in the future—join our email list to be notified when we expand.
How long does shipping take?
Orders typically ship within 1-3 business days from our Washington State facility. Delivery time depends on your location, but most domestic orders arrive within 5-7 business days. You'll receive tracking information once your order ships.
What if I'm not satisfied with my purchase?
We want you to love your products. If you're not completely satisfied, contact us within 30 days of purchase and we'll make it right—whether that's a replacement, exchange, or refund.
We stand behind everything we make. This is a family business, and your trust matters more to us than any single sale.
Do you offer samples?
We occasionally include samples with orders. For specific sample requests, contact us directly and we'll do our best to accommodate—especially if you're trying to decide between products or have specific skin concerns you want to address.
Why do you call yourselves "the generous company"?
Because we believe luxury ingredients and quality formulations shouldn't require luxury prices. We keep our prices accessible by cutting out middlemen, manufacturing on-site, and operating as a family business instead of a corporation with massive overhead.
We've purchased frugally throughout our lives, and we want to respect other people's budgets too. Everyone deserves quality skincare that actually works—not just people who can afford $150 face creams.
Do you sell wholesale?
We work with select retailers, spas, and boutiques who share our values. If you're interested in carrying Artisan The Goat products, please contact us with information about your business and we'll explore whether it's a good fit.
